Nonprofit reinstatementGet your free status check

Your nonprofit lost its 501(c)(3) status. We get it back.

Licensed CPA-led reinstatement, from status check through IRS determination.

The problem

Miss three years of Form 990 filings, and the IRS revokes you automatically

No notice, no hearing. Once your status is auto-revoked, the effects compound quickly:

How it works

A clear path from revoked to reinstated

  1. 1

    Free status check

We verify your revocation against the Auto-Revocation List, Pub. 78, and any post-revocation determination letter.

  2. 2

    We map your path

Section 4 streamlined, Section 5 or 6 retroactive, or filing-date reinstatement.

  3. 3

    We prepare the filing

Form 1023, your delinquent 990s, and a reasonable-cause statement where one is required.

  4. 4

    We file and follow through

All the way to your new IRS determination letter.

How we work

Flat fees, agreed before we begin

Apex is the reinstatement service line of a licensed CPA practice that handles nonprofit accounting, Form 990 preparation, and exempt-organization compliance every day. Two commitments define how we engage:

One flat fee, quoted up front

After your free status check, we quote a single fixed fee in writing. You approve it before any work begins — no hourly billing, and no surprise invoices later.

Led and reviewed by a licensed CPA

Professional staff may assist with research, accounting work, and application preparation under CPA supervision. Your written engagement letter identifies the CPA responsible for the engagement.

Common questions

Five nonprofit leaders discussing reinstatement documents around a table
  1. 01

    How long does reinstatement take?

Apex generally targets two to three weeks after complete intake. IRS review is separate and varies by application type, complexity, and agency workload.

  2. 02

    Will we owe back taxes?

That depends primarily on the effective date of reinstatement. Other federal and state taxes are evaluated separately.

  3. 03

Can donors deduct gifts again once reinstated?

Retroactive reinstatement generally preserves deductibility during the intervening period. Filing-date reinstatement does not eliminate the prior gap.

  4. 04

Do you handle the delinquent 990s too?

Yes, when required or advisable under the applicable reinstatement route. Prior-year Form 990-N notices are not back-filed.
